About the Scuttlebutt Creators

Erik and Melanie Kyle started Scuttlebutt because of their love of the boating community. They enjoy the connection and comradery they feel with other boaters and truly love sharing their trips on the water with family and friends. The Kyles felt that having to use Facebook and other social programs, as well as a navigation app, a fishing app and a weather app was tedious. Drawing from over 30 years of experience in the marine industry as the publishers of the Great Lakes Scuttlebutt magazine, they worked with an app developer to build Scuttlebutt, the perfect tool to simplify boating.

“From day one, our goal for Scuttlebutt was to provide a valuable resource for boaters to connect all of their online boating communications,” said Erik Kyle, creator, Scuttlebutt. “We are consistently working with our partners to enhance the functionality of the platform and give members of our community the tools in one place to have the best on-the-water experience possible.” - Erik Kyle

For recreational boaters, power boaters, sail boaters, and fishing boaters!

We all know that boaters are a fun, friendly, close-knit community!  And now Scuttlebutt is the perfect digital space to come together and easily connect with other boaters, share photos and boating adventures, and access important information for your next boating adventures.

Users of Scuttlebutt have the ability to enjoy feeds to assist with trip planning from NOAA chart data; route plotting software from Savvy Navvy; and Points of Interest from Waterway Guide showcasing marinas, yacht clubs, bridges, and anchorage information. In addition, Scuttlebutt offers “Social Groups” that can be either public or private to allow users to interact with their friends and boating community. We encourage marine businesses to post content by creating a business page.
